#AIGovernance - As a business can you still move fast, but cautiously? 🤔 In the build up to the AI Forum NZ conference tomorrow in Tāmaki Makaurau, I had the opportunity to navigate AI governance with other SMBs and SMEs as apart of workshop with the IBM team 💻 👌🏾 AI governance is a big and growing but crucial aspect when considering anything about AI. IBM broke this down into 3 pillars (this isn’t by definition nor the only areas): 1️⃣ Lifecycle governance  2️⃣ Risk management  3️⃣ Regulatory compliance Dr Poonam Zham awesome discussion on the essential role of governance in scaling generative AI for ensuring responsible innovation presented ‘Swiss Cheese Model’ - for risk mitigation. I found this quite useful as apart of your AI governance structure which can be applied not just for SME’s but for SMB’s also 🧀 🌟 ⚠️ The Swiss Cheese Model is a risk analysis framework that illustrates how accidents in complex systems often result from a combination of multiple factors rather than a single cause which is highly effective when navigating the AI lifecycle. It visualises an organisations defences against failure as stacked slices of Swiss cheese, where each slice represents a layer of safety measures and the holes symbolise vulnerabilities within those defences. The 🧀 layers described here are: ➡️ Input controls - refer to measures taken to ensure the quality and integrity of the data used to train the AI model - can include source attribution. Insuring input data does not contain biases or other issues that could negatively impact models performance. ➡️ Model controls - focus on monitoring and evaluating the AI model itself, including metrics around model quality, hallucination risk etc. This allows model owners to asses whether the model is behaving as expected and identify any potential risks. ➡️ Lastly Output controls - examines the results and predications generated by the ai model to ensure they are accurate, unbiased, and aligned to the intended use case. This can include testing for things like readability, profanity as potential issues in model outputs. 💡By emphasising a systemic approach and encouraging the implementation of multiple safety measures, the Swiss cheese model helps organisations proactively identify and address potential risks, ultimately enhancing safety and resilience to be able to keep moving while ensuring a multilayer approach to AI risk management using the swiss model ensures robust safeguards and confidence in GenAI 🔛

Our Claystone Marketing CEO Merv Fernando was honoured to be a guest speaker / panelist at last week’s Department of Marketing at Monash Business School Dialogue. This event brought together esteemed practitioners and academics to address a critical challenge: achieving genuine inclusivity in business and academia. The panel, featuring Dr. Ayan ('aw-yo-n’) Dasvarma (School and Institute Manager at the Biomedicine Discovery Institute and Chair of the Anti-Racism Project Group at Monash University), Sandi Grace (CEO and Founder of Grace Professional Services), and Mervyn Fernando (CEO of Claystone Marketing), offered unique insights into embedding inclusivity into strategy and practice. John Rizzo expertly moderated the discussion, which delved into both the challenges and opportunities of championing inclusivity across various sectors while consciously avoiding tokenism.
